Coming to Mantua in May?

Mantua (Italian Capital of Culture for 2016 and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008) will host the ninth edition of Para Dos, encuentro milonguero de mayo.
Another city of art, another historic city center to discover, a whole weekend of beauty!

The event

Following our tradition, we have chosen one of Italy’s most important cities of art for this encounter.

Mantua is a small city, but is known as ‘the most aristocratic city in Lombardy’. Tied to the noble Gonzaga family, and also universally famous for being the birthplace of Virgil, it is built around three lakes bordered by a cycle path, and boasts impressive residences, museums and a perfectly preserved historic center. Mantua is a real gem for lovers of architecture, art and culture, just think of the people who passed through the Gonzaga court: Leon Battista Alberti, Giulio Romano, Mantegna, Correggio, Tiziano…

Walking around the city and discovering Sant’Andrea, Palazzo Te, and Palazzo Ducale will be like a journey within a journey.

Torquato Tasso once said, “This is a beautiful city, worthy of traveling a thousand miles to see.“

The Encuentro

The ‘En las Milongas de Barrio’ project goes on for the third year: after the 2024 edition in our Milongas in Milan, in 2025 we were hosted by El Salon Cascabelito in Rome, and this year – the 9th edition –  we moved to El Viejo Almacen Papelero in Mantua. 

This project, with our guests coming from all over the world, takes us inside the halls that permanently host Italian Tango communities, with the idea of sharing the close bond between Tango and the territory by experiencing a space that lives and breathes Tango all year round and over time. 

And I assure you that at El Viejo Almacén Papelero, you can feel the Tango in the air!

The Bar

For our breaks between tandas, there will be a refreshment area at the Milonga: a buvette offering fresh fruit, as well as sweet and savory snacks, and a small American Bar (pay as you go) serving cocktails, wines and all kinds of drinks.

The Table

To share the pleasure of the table with all our friends, the usual convivial gathering in the spirit of socializing and cheerfulness: on Sunday we will offer to our guests ‘la Despedida’ brunch, served in the dining room but to be enjoyed outdoors on the small lawn of the Milonga. 

Then, during the Milongas, there will be a small buffet in the refreshment area with fresh fruit, and sweet and savory snacks, until finally the “Midnight Pizza” will make its entrance, and it will keep us going until closing time.

Accomodation in Mantua

The city of Mantua has a small historic center that is rich in architecture and notable buildings to visit.
It can be easily explored by foot and offers a wide range of accommodation options: even in the heart of the historic center, within a few blocks, you will find hotels, apartments, B&Bs…among which you are sure to find the right solution for you and your friends!

If you are traveling by car, there are many indoor and secure car parks around the city center (see Parking in Mantua). For your convenience, we recommend the car park (3-5 euros/day) a few steps from Corso Vittorio Emanuele which, past the Teatro Sociale, leads directly to Piazza Erbe and then along Via Umberto, to Piazza Sordello.

If you are not traveling by car, consult the Map – below – of the two shuttle bus stops that you can use to get to the Milonga from the city center.

Transfers & Shuttle

For those who are not traveling by car, we offer two free services:

  • Transfer to/from Mantua-Verona Catullus Airport (30 km)
  • Shuttle to/from the historic center-Milonga (2 km)

  • PASS BAILE € 160/person.
    What’s included in the Pass Baile: 5 Milongas (4 Milongas, Fri 15/Sun 17 + Sun 17 After Party free and reserved for guests of the encuentro) + Brunch Buffet Sun 17 + Small Buffet inside the Milonga (fresh fruit + sweet & savory snacks) + Midnight Pizza + water.

Informations and Details

  • Set-up: chairs and tables in the two leader and follower sectors only.
  • Candies available for all guests at tables as well as in the restrooms –everything a milonguero needs;
  • Traditional music (tandas y cortinas);
  • Adherence to Milonga ‘Codigos’: INVITATION codes, BALLROOM codes, DANCE FLOOR codes, please, read ‘Codigos’.

Abrazo cordial respetuoso y cerrado, no dar pasos atras, no levantar demasiado los pies dal piso (Cachirulo, Bs As);

  • Seats chosen individually, each day upon arrival at the milonga;
  • Parquet;
  • Air conditioning.
  • Form activates on the 10th of December at 9:00 p.m. > ENROLL
  • Registration for couples and singles follower/leader.
  • Leader/follower balance, odd single followers: max 10% of follower who are in couples (the couples registrated and the ones paired by the organisation);
  • Choose ‘leader/follower role’ on the registration form and don’t change role throughout the encuentro.
  • Limited capacity (150 people);
  • Subscribing is mandatory and has to be done individually;
    • Clicking the ‘Participate’ button on Facebook is not valid as registration;
    • Automatic form on this website (entry for subscribed members only);
    • Newsletter n.1: After submission you’ll receive automatically the newsletter n.1, it means “your form was submitted successfully”;
    • Newsletter n.2: Confirmation newsletter with IBAN and timing of payment / Waiting List.
